About the Awards

Brought to you by Deloitte, leaders are nominated by their peers and they are then evaluated by the Leaders to be Proud of Awards Selection Committee for alignment with award criteria. Final decisions are rendered by Out on Bay Street’s board of directors.

The 2012 Awards categories and criteria:

Professional Excellence Award
  • Has made a significant contribution to the business or professional community, including exceptional leadership, market presence, strategic vision and/or economic value
  • Is recognized as a life-time achiever who currently belongs to a professional community or has reached retirement with recognized achievements
  • Recipient should be an LGBTQ individual and who may or may not have been out for the duration of their career, but is willing to let their name stand for this award
  • Up to 3 awards may be given, based on quality and size of nomination pool
Future Leader Award
  • Has shown exceptional ability in terms of leadership, business excellence and vision whose career has strong upward potential and is publicly recognized as a role-model for the community
  • Recipient should be an LGBTQ individual
  • Recipient should be a mid-level professional (e.g. under 40-45)
LGBTQ Workplace Advocate Award
  • Has made the significant contribution in the area of LGBTQ workplace advocacy, such as advocating for pro-LGBTQ policies, mentorship, and/or creation of an employee resource group (ERG)
  • Is considered a precursor for equality and inclusion and a driver for the affirmation of diversity
  • Recipient should be an LGBTQ individual
Leading Executive Ally Award
  • Has made significant contribution to advancing LGBTQ issues in the business  or professional community through advocacy and outreach as an active, empowered ally
  • Recipient should be an ally to the LGBTQ community
